Unless I am misunderstanding something we can already download the firmware using the Getweb command in Feisty. It is downloaded as an .img file. It needs to be converted to a .dl file before being copied over to usr/share/foo2zjs/firmware.
I wish that the process could somehow be automated in Gutsy so that the user don't have to know how to do this. It should just be done. Perhaps a user could be prompted about the legal copyright aspects before installing the firmware. I guess that is not a driver issue, but a feature that would have to be built into CUPS.
