Actually it does do something, but I'm not sure if it's good. I'm running: DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=oneiric DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 11.10" I set the horiz * vertical to 3 * 2, and # Desktops to 2. (What exactly is the relationship between a Workspace and a Desktop? Ubuntu doesn't mention the word "Desktop", only "Workspace".)
I then launched emacs and right-clicked it to the workspace to the right. Emacs disappeared from my current Workspace/Desktop. It was also absent from all the other Workspaces. The little triangle to the left of the Emacs icon in the Launcher disappeared, indicating that I couldn't jump to that instance of Emacs. If I switched to other workspaces and hit ALT-TAB, the switcher would show several running programs, but not emacs. I ran "ps" in a shell, and could see that Emacs was still running. If I clicked on the Emacs Launcher button, a new instance of Emacs would be run, but it would complain that Emacs was already running. On most of the Workspaces ALT-TAB would not show an Emacs icon, but one of them did. If I seleted Emacs, the view would switch to a new, empty, Workspace. If I returned to the Workspace that had showed Emacs in the Switcher, emacs would no longer show up in the Switcher. Only when I set the Number of Desktops back to 1 did Emacs return, and the little triangle to the left of the Launcher also reappear! The CCSM tab for Desktop Size needs a LOT more text explaining: 1. what the relationship is between a Workspace and a Desktop. 2. A warning that if # Desktops > 1, then either bad stuff happens or some text on how to switch between Desktops. 3. or that there's a bug, and you should beware. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779309 Title: Number of Desktops does nothing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compizconfig-settings-manager/+bug/779309/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
