Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xsane

This is a carry-forward from the scanner problem in Feisty (see bug#
86022). I have heard that this was fixed upstream & have talked to
people on sane-developer-list about this. The problem seems to be
specific to Ubuntu & the way the USB_SUSPEND is compiled in the kernel.
I really would like to use my scanners at some time in the future & want
to use a "stock" kernel to do so. I do know that Gerhard Jaeger from
Sane-list compiled a kernel without the USB_SUSPEND & has good scanner
operation in his Ubuntu install. I remember in the past that there were
several different kernels available---would it be so much of a issue to
have a suspend & non-suspend "flavor"???

I know that laptop suspend is a priorty, but I do not think that loosing
a important functionallty for desktops (including the business sector)
should be over-looked.

** Affects: xsane (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
