Hello Lars, Thanks for your quick response. I see this problem right after adding a new printer using system-config-printer, then click on "Print a test page." (I wasn't trying to print a pdf at all.)
However, I did a chmod -R 755 and chown -R root.root to /usr/lib/cups/filters and I can print now.... I still don't know why... (sorry, I am completely a newbie) I didn't mean to trouble you too much; but I have almost pulled off all my hair and couldn't figure out why ....
