Public bug reported:
I am using the 64-bit version of Feisty Fawn on an Athlon 3800. I have
just upgraded my 2x Nvidia 6600GT (in SLI mode) to 1x Nvidia 8600GTS.
When ubuntu now boots it does not show the usplash screen. All I get is
a blank screen and my monitor reports 'No Signal'.
However, GDM starts, if xorg.conf is set to use the generic 'vesa' video
driver.
The nvidia driver seems to be completely broken. Nothing I have installed
through synaptic supports my new card.
I did install the beta driver off the Nvidia web site which worked, until new
ubuntu updates came through. So now this is completely broken, even if I try
to reinstall the nvidia driver from nvidia's web site.
FYI, the installer I used was NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.03-pkg2.run.
