I'm running 10.04 (presently kernel 2.6.32-38-generic but the newest one is installing now) and the latest NVidia driver (VIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 285.05.09 Fri Sep 23 17:31:57 PDT 2011). Through several kernel updates and several driver updates over the last six months at least, whenever a new kernel comes by the system wants to drop to safe mode. I found that if I 'exit to console', then re-run the NVidia driver installer as root, the problem is fixed until next time.
A possibly related piece of info: whenever I log in, I get a message that says "the X server does not support the resolution requested". But everything proceeds to work fine. I'm running dual 1680x1050 monitors. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373352 Title: Following update to 2.6.24-24 kernel, nVidia graphics card not recognized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/envyng-core/+bug/373352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
