rolled back to lubuntu-artwork 0.21 from 0.22~ppa8 and tried notify-send
"hello" (which worked fine in the latter) and notification-daemon
crashes. so i'm still not sure this is a problem with lubuntu-artwork
and not notification-daemon, but the two certainly aren't playing well
with one another. between the two, it seems that goofy artwork is a
lesser evil than non-functional notifications. there has been murmurings
about funkiness in notification-daemon. perhaps this is an sign we
should try another way to take care of notifications? (i know with
feature freeze this is a bit late; let's call it premature for 12.10) ;)
