I have the same problem, but with subsequent ctrl-alt-delete the computer boots 
well.
I have no sata devices, I have checked all logs and can't find something 
noteworthy.
If it is a kernel issue I think version 2.6.20 urgently needs an fix, because I 
have a double swap space problem as well:
