Attempting to call "import matplotlib" results in an import error.

Exception Value:        No module named numpy

/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/matplotlib/numerix/__init__.py in , line 73

However, installing python-numpy causes python-matplotlib to be removed.
Clearly there is an issue here...
