Public bug reported:
This is on an up to date feisty install. It is possible for a user to
get into a situation where their CD-ROM drives become more or less
unusable to them. The general effects here are that the user can no
longer unmount the drive, root must do this (but the user never mounts
the drive as root). Also the CD-ROM Volume Label will stop updating,
staying on a fixed name regardless of whatever CD you put in.
Steps to Reproduce:
1) Insert CD, properly mounted by gnome-vfs
2) Press eject button on cd-rom tray
3) Insert new CD (note this new CD will still have the volume label of the old
CD)
4) Attempt to umount cdrom as user (you cant)
I acknowledge that pressing that button wont result in a clean unmount
since HAL wont always send the eject signal. That said, it's a read
only media, nothing really to sync(). Even then the system should not
be left in a state that the user cant easily recover. I still have no
clue how to get it to start working correctly again without rebooting.
