This appears related both to the device selection setting for sound
being changed by some applications and to the clocks of some sound
cards:

The short answer is to go to your System Setting/Sound and check that
the Hardware and Output tabs both use "Internal Hardware Analog Stereo".
The bug is still here; no one knows why these get changed randomly and
why they change the video playback speed.
