I have since deleted the LiveCD Xubuntu 7.04 installation as gxine is
giving me the said problem. I have tried reinstalling for 3 times before
I gave up and downloaded the alternative iso.
I think in the vmware environment, my computer hardware may not be that
important compare to the one vmware provided.
According to the dmesg using current Alternative Xubuntu 7,04
installation running in vmware player are as below.
1. It emulate an Intel 440BX mainboard
[ 0.000000] ACPI: FADT (v001 INTEL 440BX 0x06040000 PTL
0x000f4240) @ 0x07efef14
[ 59.912533] agpgart: Detected an Intel 440BX Chipset.
2. Nothing is about the video card in dmesg accept this
[ 59.423140] Linux agpgart interface v0.102 (c) Dave Jones
[ 59.912533] agpgart: Detected an Intel 440BX Chipset.
[ 59.920361] agpgart: AGP aperture is 256M @ 0x0
3. Upon check the /etc/X11/xorg.conf the info about "Device"
Section "Device"
Identifier "VMware SVGA"
Driver "VMware"
EndSection
4. Audio seems to be passed to the host sound card which is a bullt-in
Realtek AC97 Audio
This only happens in the LiveCD Xubuntu 7.04 installation. I did fresh
installation by deleting the virtual files each time (3 times). but the
text based alternative installation, Gxine can play sound ok but the
video output is either discoloured or scrambled and very lagging even in
small size. Video played is from the example folder.
