Public bug reported:

Some applications when active do not put anything in the menubar, and
holding alt does not show their menus even though hitting F10 will.
Debugging this with unity peeps they got me to look at the dbus
information, at org.ayatana.bamf, specifically at some application
entries.  I have one of those which has not DesktopFile associated with
it.  This is not normal apparently.
