** Description changed:

On my computer, I have Right Alt bound to Compose. I use the compose key
to type in characters that I need on a daily basis: notably the GBP
pound symbol, accented characters for foreign words and certain
  punctuation (en-dash, em-dash and ellipsis).

Since the recent unity update, although my setting is still the same (I
checked in System Settings > Keyboard > Layout Settings > Options >
- Compose key position), Right Alt is instead triggering the funky command
- menu thingy.
+ Compose key position), Right Alt is not acting as Compose. I'm not
+ entirely sure what it's doing.

I realize the Compose key is a bit nerdy. If it were to be sacrificed on
the altar of better user experience I would merrily plunge the knife in
myself. Well, only if there were still a way to use the keyboard to
enter common characters that are not on the keyboard. As it is, I think
  this is an objective regression.
+
+ When I try pressing the keys in xev, I get the following information:
+
+ Left Alt: keycode 64 (keysym 0xffe9, Alt_L)
+ Right Alt: keycode 108 (keysym 0xff20, Multi_Key)

Thanks for taking the time to consider this bug report.
