Is this a Sandy Bridge processor? If so, this may be related to RC6 being turned on by default recently in the Ubuntu 12.04 kernel update. This issue has been discussed a lot here over time: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/818830
To test whether it is RC6-related, first determine if your processor is a Sandy Bridge one by running "cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep "model name" | head -1" and looking up that processor model number in Google. If it is Sandy Bridge, pass the kernel parameter "i915.i915_enable_rc6=0" on boot and see if you can reproduce the bug. If you can't, please report your experience by adding your machine to the tests being done here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/PowerManagementRC6 Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938770 Title: Desktop becomes completely unresponsive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/938770/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
