Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: octave2.9

See thread starting at:

http://www.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/bug-octave/2007-May/002494.html

To sum it up, when using g77-compiled libraries, the gfortran compiler
has to be called with -ff2c, otherwise the results will be incorrect and
the program might even crash.
