For the time being, Wired is always preferred over Wireless, which is
preferred over other connection methods such as bluetooth, 3G, etc.
This preference scheme is used to avoid unnecessarily using pricey
connections, and as a way to define a default gateway in the most sane
way possible.
If you can still reproduce this, please provide the output of "netstat
-rn" so we can see the routes applied by NetworkManager, and give us
hints about the servers you want to access (over which route they should
be reachable).
In newer Ubuntu releases, there is also now a checkbox that can be set
under the Routes dialog to "Use this connection only for the resources
on its network", which on eth0, should allow your system to use the ath0
connection as the default route instead.
