Ok, I have now researched this a little bit further. Seems like ALSA upstream
did a refactoring of the quirks and did not care about adding the jack
detection stuff to the special handling needed for this model.
Then recently yet another refactoring was done, which likely adds it again,
leaving 3.1 - 3.3 without jack detection for this particular model. :-/
I guess there are two things to try:
1) adding "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
and reboot - this will hopefully restore jack detection, but I'm afraid
something else will stop working (unsure what). But if everything is working
correctly, we could consider making it standard for 12.04.
2) Upgrade to use the daily DKMS package. (We already build DKMS
packages for 12.04.)
