Unfortunately, I am no longer using Ubuntu-my laptop died a couple

I think your bug is a duplicate of bug #49840. Which Gcompris and Ubuntu
version do you use ?
Gcompris administration tool works fine for me in Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty" (except
a usability problems, for example I didn't found the way how to show a login
prompt as default).
