I get the same error it seems except it was a clean install onto a MacBook Pro 8,3 and I have not been able to get past it. I can go into a different terminal (Alt-F5) and login. The installer started out with 3.0.0.12. I did a dist-upgrade and it now has 3.0.0.16. Neither works and I see no difference. I would be happy to post an apport but apport- collect and apport-cli want to open a browser but it is not (I suppose due to text mode).
