Ok so I have the kernel you suggested and the results are interesting.
aplay -l:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC889 Analog [ALC889 Analog]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 1: ALC889 Digital [ALC889 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
The third card is not my Maudio - but it is an addition to the previous kernel
where only the first two were found.
More interesting is the output of lspci -vvv:

So the two cards are no longer on the same IRQ - But the Maudio still
isnt being recognised.
I tried sudo modprobe snd_ice1712 but to no avail.
Not sure whether to mark this as fixed by upstream kernel (as the IRQ is
different) or leave as the symptom is still here?
Thanks
