Make sure you first stop NetowrkManager and ModemManager completely
(including killing them if necessary) then start modemmanager, then
start network-manager. With this done, plug in your device, and give it
enough time to be detected. It should show in the nm-applet menu.
If it doesn't, please provide full logs from /var/log/syslog.
