whew... after 2 months of stuffing around with things and going through the emotional highs and lows of trying different recommendations found all over the joint, I finally have my sound working on my laptop. I am not sure what I did exactly, but I just did the following:
1. reinstalled all alsa stuff (base, lib, utils) to version 14rc4 - I had tried this before with no joy, so not sure about this?! 2. in trying to fix a problem with only being and to log onto my computer via a text log in (would love to go back to a graphical login, but will survive if I must) I came across a fix someone did in their /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file where I noted that on start up audio was disabled (is this always the case? for my edification), so I deleted that bit and resaved the file 3. rebooted and it all worked. I have never used linux before, but I do like the nature of it and am willing to play around to get things to work the way I want. not sure this is all that ready forthe masses who aren't willing to play around...just yet thanks for the help Brian! -- no onboard sound on laptop (NEC) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
