Probably FIXED: With Linux 3.2.0-17 or 3.2.0-18, and with acer-wmi blacklisted, the slow connection speed seems to be resolved in connections to most routers at libraries, etc. Still keeping 2.6.38-8-generic around for any surprises for now. Blacklisting acer-wmi stopped the disconnects as stated before.
