The next stable version of the alsa-driver (1.0.14) should be released next 
monday (june 3rd).

So if you don't want to go through the hassle of patching the driver as 
described in the  ubuntu forums thread I recommend waiting for Monday and 
compiling the stable version. Just go trough steps 1-5 in the forum thread 
replacing "1.0.14rc" with 1.0.14 every where. Skip step 6 and in step 8 just 
skip the first two commands where the patch is applied as the functionality is 
already in the driver.

I hope the new driver will be added to the ubuntu-kernels soon, as it
has many fixes and improvements for the hda-intel driver, which seems to
be very popular in newer laptops.
