I ran the 'sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' command you
requested but it appeared like the OS was already updated to the latest
lucid release as it reported

0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

when finished running the command. I then reran the hdparm command to
check read speed but it continues to appear slow.

owner@Pluto:~$ sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sdb

/dev/sdb:
 Timing cached reads:   2434 MB in  2.00 seconds = 1217.46 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads:   16 MB in  3.07 seconds =   5.21 MB/sec

The attached results from the 'sudo lspci -vv -nn command ' were
produced by the Lucid instance.
