It looks like a package became corrupt during the installation of
updates. I would try reinstalling without installing updates and then
after you have installed Ubuntu then run update-manager to install
updates.

1st time installer of ubuntu unable to complete intall 2nd to error
occurring during install. Tryed on different computer, als downloaded
