Oh no, the sound still disappears, it just takes longer than it used to. But the video problem is persistent. It doesn't appear like anyone has any idea what the problem is, so if it does not vanish on the upgrade to 12.04, I'll try formatting the hard-drive and starting with a fresh install. I think this system has been upgraded at least 4 times.
