You can already preview all the steps it will do with View -> Pending
Operations in the menu.  A time estimate would be almost impossible to
give though, as that depends on a lot of factors.

Also, there has been some tought about optimizing/folding operations in
the past, but that's not always as simple as it seems.

In any case, if it takes as long as you say, that probably means a
filesystem needs to be moved (or enlarged towards the beginning of the
disk, which requires a move first, as filesystems only allow growing at
the end).

But a possibility to cancel-after-current-operation would be great...
