** Description changed: I recently installed Ubuntu on a EXT2 partition (dual boot with win7) and upgraded it to precise pangolin, it's just amazing. (if I ignore the errors; every day there are less errors, updating helps) but Ubuntu 12.04 can't boot with the 3.2 kernel, it says "kernel panic" -unable to mount root..blahblah some numbers however if I select kernel 2.6 ... 64 in grub it boots almost normally (but it is doing a disk check on every startup, that's a bit annoying) my hardware: Packard bell easy note, Celeron(R) Dual-Core CPU T3000 @ 1.80GHz × 2 (x64) GPU: Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset 160 GB HDD (as far as I know samsung.) 10gb for ubuntu 1,9 GiB ram + --- + AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24. + AplayDevices: + **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272 Analog [ALC272 Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + ApportVersion: 1.94.1-0ubuntu2 + Architecture: amd64 + ArecordDevices: + **** List of CAPTURE Hardware Devices **** + card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC272 Analog [ALC272 Analog] + Subdevices: 1/1 + Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USER PID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: dirk 1928 F.... pulseaudio + Card0.Amixer.info: + Card hw:0 'Intel'/'HDA Intel at 0xf4700000 irq 44' + Mixer name : 'Realtek ALC272' + Components : 'HDA:10ec0272,1631018b,00100001' + Controls : 20 + Simple ctrls : 11 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 + HibernationDevice: RESUME= + MachineType: PACKARD BELL BV EasyNote MH36 + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: root=UUID=af6aac09-0107-4641-b334-b76f078bd265 ro quiet splash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-18.29-generic 3.2.9 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.2.0-18-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.2.0-18-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.71 + RfKill: + 0: phy0: Wireless LAN + Soft blocked: no + Hard blocked: no + Tags: precise + Uname: Linux 3.2.0-18-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to precise on 2012-03-13 (4 days ago) + UserGroups: adm admin audio cdrom dialout dip floppy fuse lpadmin plugdev video + dmi.bios.date: 08/24/2009 + dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies LTD + dmi.bios.version: PBPE2L0N.P13 + dmi.board.name: PE2L + dmi.board.vendor: PACKARD BELL BV + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 9 + dmi.chassis.vendor: PACKARD BELL BV + dmi.chassis.version: N/A + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLTD:bvrPBPE2L0N.P13:bd08/24/2009:svnPACKARDBELLBV:pnEasyNoteMH36:pvrLX.B1902.002:rvnPACKARDBELLBV:rnPE2L:rvr:cvnPACKARDBELLBV:ct9:cvrN/A: + dmi.product.name: EasyNote MH36 + dmi.product.version: LX.B1902.002 + dmi.sys.vendor: PACKARD BELL BV ** Attachment added: "AcpiTables.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958429/+attachment/2890507/+files/AcpiTables.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958429 Title: linux kernel 3.2 =kernel panic?
