Well, unfortunately, the strace does not show anything useful. You know
you could probably cut and paste the whole text to a text file...
Can I please get the valgrind trace? Run this and attach the
valgrind_vlc_cache_gen.txt file.
# sudo valgrind /usr/lib/vlc/vlc-cache-gen -f /usr/lib/vlc/plugins/
2>valgrind_vlc_cache_gen.txt
Another option would be to file a bug report with AppPort, since
something is crashing.
