Booting with dmraid_1.0.0.rc16-4.1ubuntu7 installed, both halves of the mdadm
RAID in their slots, and an alternate /home produced these results (and no
resets):
/dev/dm-0 turns up in Disk Utility (Palimpsest) as "unknown" 1.8 TB
capacity, should be multidisk device with 4 TB capacity
also shows up in /dev/disk/by-id/ as
/dev/disk/by-id/dm-uuid-DMRAID-pdc_dfbfdfiij
/dev/disk/by-id/dm-name-pdc_dfbfdfiij
Both component disks turn up as "raid component," partition table not
read but readable by parted.
/dev/dm-0 will open in parted, command "print" gives this error:
Error: Can't have a partition outside the disk!
Should give unrecognized label error, as no RAID has ever been
partitioned on these disks. Not about to try anything that will write to
these two disks-especially with a corrupted size and property reading in
Disk utility!
This is the same with BIOS set to "ACHD" or to "RAID," dmesg files for
both attached.
CONCLUSION: dmraid is able partially but not entirely to recognize this
chipset, finding the combined volume but failing to understand what it is or
read it's capacity. Both drives were set in the BIOS for a RAID 0 volume, if
the BIOS is set to "RAID" it is reliably recognized as such. Setting the BIOS
to "AHCI" shows them as individual disks, no effect of this on what dmraid
shows after passing control from the BIOS
I am now going to pull dmraid back out of the OS, concluding this round of
tests.
