The subject of font appearance seems to get a lot of chatter on the
forums. It appears that the results of xdpyinfo and Gnomes "Font
Rendering Details" give rather inconsistent results. "xdpyinfo |grep
resolution" gave me 89x87 even though my resolution was set to 96. I
tried setting my resolution to 88 and fonts on the screen did shrink a
little but I believe the end result sharper than before so I'll keep it
that way. One thing interesting is the xdpyinfo still says resolution
89x87. This leads me to believe that although related these parameters
don't effect each others value but being different negatively impacts
the visual appearance of fonts. I hope this information is helpful.
