Just a quick comment to explain why the aty_128 framebuffer needs to be
built in.  The r128 video driver has UseFBDev set to on for PowerPC (see
the manual
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/en/man4/r128.4.html ).  Thus
without the framebuffer loaded the r128 video driver will boot to a
terminal.
