The status-icon plugin has been removed from the upstream source on
2011-04-04. From rhythmbox's changelog:
remove status icon plugin
The notification part is going to reappear in a separate plugin soon,
and the status icon might come back on its own if anyone's interested
in doing the work to keep it alive.
