This is resolved in Ubuntu 12.04 beta 24-mar-2012 Precise Pangolin.
Note that "merely" updating and upgrading an older beta version with
Update Manager is NOT SUFFICIENT.
I had to download the latest ISO liveCD image and re-install completely.
