Interestingly, I just tried using the new Unity 5.8 launcher placement
feature today, and it worked the first time. I was surprised, so I went
and adjusted the setting again, but I got the black screen. When it
works, the screen does not go black at all. It "refreshes" the screen if
you like where Unity seems to restart itself. When it breaks, the screen
goes black and everything locks up. Also to note that the output to the
external display goes (the monitor goes into standby mode) and the
laptop screen is left with backlight on, but frozen. I tried to
replicate it successfully working a couple more times, but had the black
screen + freeze both times. I then tried doing an apport-collect but had
the same message "No additional information collected."
