I have this problem on my MSi Wind U100 after upgrading yesterday. I have tried both unity --reset and the description from #39. None did work and ended up with same result where the hole desktop environment disapered and would not return. (Chrome and all other applications went into black)
I have tried the to log in with unity 2d log out and back in with unity 3d with no result. I also tried to exucute the unity --reset when logged into unity 2d. This made the unity disapere and coming back in its 3d form.
