Through different versions of Ubuntu I see SIGSEGV related errors coming and going. And I have the impression, they always start if I begin to install different desktop environments on the same machine to make every user choose his prefered one. Mostly I see them on my testing machines where I install basically all available Desktop environments. Not sure if that idea helps.
