Public bug reported:

When installing the kubuntu image as part of the iso testing
(kubuntu/daily/20120327/precise-alternate-amd64.iso) using the alternate
installer from the daily builds for March 27, 2012, I attemted to make a
full-disk encrypted setup using LVM. I used the instructions from the
isotesting testcase:
http://testcases.qa.ubuntu.com/Install/AlternateEncryptedLvm

The install went perfectly. However, when I rebooted, the system showed
a console with the error: "error: no video mode activated." instead of a
prompt for the LVM encryption password. I left it for awhile with no
change. At this point, I simply typed in the password for the LVM
encryption, and the system then continuted to boot normally.

To try something out, I pushed the down arrow key, this caused the size
of the console text to change, and also output the prompt for the LVM
password (with two astricks '*' as if the single down arrow had typed
two keys). I tried pushing the down arrow again, and got a KDE themed
GUI for entering the LVM encryption password, this time with 4 astricks
filled in. Pushing the arrow key further cycled between the console and
GUI, each time adding two more astricks. I was able to use the
backspace button to clean out the prompt and enter my password.

After getting into the system, I tested it (everything was working fine)
then rebooted. I experienced the same symptoms (just a blank screen)
after each boot.

There is a workaround to this bug (press the down arrow), however, you
can't exactly look it up if you're stuck during the boot process.
