I am running Feisty (fresh install) and I am using the Open Source ATI
drivers and as far as I can remember I did not need to do the work-
around I documented here:

I am still using the cheap Radeon 9250 card that I was using before. I
am forced to use the Open Source drivers because RV2xx is no longer
supported by the latest proprietary drivers from ATI. They work OK as
far as OpenGL functions are concerned. I was able to get Desktop Effects
going with very few and minor problems.
