jowi: I've got one more build I'd like you to try, if you don't mind. This is a technique that some people have reported as working, writing 1 to HCI_BACKLIGHT right after setting the brightness level. It may well lock up your machine like the other attempts, but I'd like to at least try it before giving up. Thanks!
