'whohas' revealed some interesting packaging issues in recent evince
releases:
$ whohas evince-common | grep ubuntu | grep "3\." | awk {'print $3,$4,$5'}
3.2.0-0ubuntu1 455K http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/evince-common
3.2.1-0ubuntu2.2 2M http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric-updates/evince-common
3.4.0-0ubuntu1 464K http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/evince-common
Given these, I chose to test with 3.2.0-0ubuntu1 on Precise:
$ LC_ALL=C sudo apt-get install evince-common/oneiric evince/oneiric
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Selected version '3.2.0-0ubuntu1' (Ubuntu:11.10/oneiric [all]) for
'evince-common'
Selected version '3.2.0-0ubuntu1' (Ubuntu:11.10/oneiric [i386]) for 'evince'
Selected version '3.2.0-0ubuntu1' (Ubuntu:11.10/oneiric [i386]) for
'libevince3-3' because of 'evince'
Selected version '0.16.7-2ubuntu2' (Ubuntu:11.10/oneiric [i386]) for
'libpoppler-glib6' because of 'libevince3-3'
The following extra packages will be installed:
libevince3-3 libnautilus-extension1 libpoppler-glib6 libpoppler13
The following NEW packages will be installed:
libnautilus-extension1 libpoppler-glib6 libpoppler13
The following packages will be DOWNGRADED:
evince evince-common libevince3-3
0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 3 downgraded, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Installing this older version from Oneiric (and the above dependencies)
on Precise did not restore normal operation.
