** Description changed:

  Since updating to maverick I've been experiencing random crashes usually
  after few hours or so running. It starts with screen blinking black for
  a moment. after that there is a long period of high CPU usage with
  frozen screen image, sometimes with cursor still moving, sometimes not.
  If I wait long enough screen blanks and num lock and caps lock light
  start blinking, indicating a panic. the panic itself is not logged but
  each crash so far has been preceded by an unexpected NMI. Using the
  kernel left over from Lucid prevents the crash. I do use the nvidia
  binary driver.
