So for the silence for so long. Unfortunately, I can not check the
version anymore where this bug is reported as Karmic is not supported
anymore.
Just some information. In the Debian package global.php is patched to use
include("/usr/share/php/adodb/adodb.inc.php");
So I wonder why that didn't work for you. If we want to persue this bug
we need the global.php file that gives the error.
