hostname -f gives me the FQDN properly, so it's not a consistent
problem. I've seen similar things before when there are incorrect
entries in the /etc/hosts file. My suggestion is to check your
/etc/hosts file and ensure it's setup as follows:
[internet address] [domain name] [alias]
eg: 127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
Please just let me know if this has solved the problem.
