Okay... I have new information on this elusive bug...
The scroll handles *sometimes* disappear when a column gets "buried" too
deeply -- like over 8 hours. *If* the scroll handle then disappears on
that column, in my experience it will remain gone until you reach the
top of the stream again. Then it usually re-appears.
To recreate:
1. Scroll a column down a couple of clicks with the mouse wheel so that
it doesn't automatically "top" with every new update.
2. Leave that column alone for 8-12 hours. The scroll handle may not be
available to you when you try to quickly run the column back up to the
top.
3. If it's gone, use the scroll wheel to scroll up and check every so
often to see if the scroll handle re-appears. It probably won't until
you've hit the top.
That's been my experience after watching the thing since I first this
bug with erroneous information.
