This lockup was likely caused by the aufs patch to the kernel, running
the upstream kernel is not likely to demonstrate it. Furthermore, aufs
use has been deprecated, and I converted the machine over to using
overlayfs in the oneiric cycle, and have not seen a reoccurrance of the
issue since doing so.
