It seems like this didn't help with my Samsung CLP-310N. I'm using the Samsung Unified Printer Driver, since the foo2qpdl driver gives unusable results as printouts. The cutoff of the top margin affects monochrome as well as colour prints.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 and the installed hplip package version is 3.11.7-1ubuntu3.1... Please let me know if I can provide any additional information that helps solving this issue.
