@Christopher: bug #713088 has been confirmed by users of various nvidia models with the nouveau driver, with a corruption pattern that looks pretty much like the one in this bug report. Chances are the underlying problem is the same.
There is an interesting symptom that which remains to be confirmed here: this bug is reproducible in installed systems but not off the liveCD. Could anyone here confirm this? In #713088 it has been mentioned, as well as in forums that link to these bugs which I found googling around. I reported bug #920120 which also happens in installed systems but not on liveCDs, which also involves plymouth corruption and results in a second monitor not working, and I'm trying to establish connections between these multiple reports.
